Atiku Abubakar Urges ADC to Choose Competent Candidate

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria, called on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to choose a competent and experienced presidential candidate for the upcoming 2027 general elections. In a statement issued by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku stressed that the ADC's choice should transcend political sentiment and focus on historical responsibility.

He highlighted Nigeria's current economic hardships, insecurity, and institutional failures, arguing that the nation requires a leader with practical experience in governance and economic management. Atiku pointed out that the ADC must prioritize candidates who can effectively address Nigeria's challenges rather than rely on mere campaign rhetoric.

He referenced his tenure as Vice President from 1999 to 2007 as evidence of his preparedness for leadership and economic reform. The primary election is scheduled for May 25, 2026, where Atiku is expected to compete against former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi and Moham Hayatu-Deen, a former boss of the Northern Nigeria Development Company.
