ADC and PDP Announce Boycott of Kano By-Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the People's Democratic Party (PDP) have declared their intention to boycott the Kano State Assembly elections set for February 21, as announced by ADC State Chairman Musa Shu Aibu and PDP Kano State Chairman Yusuf Ado Kibiya. The ADC expressed a lack of confidence in the credibility of the electoral process, stating that the elections resemble appointments rather than genuine contests.

Aibu noted that the party would focus its efforts on preparing for the 2027 general elections. Similarly, Kibiya cited inadequate notice from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which did not allow sufficient time for proper preparation for the elections.

He mentioned that the PDP had not received a response from INEC regarding their concerns. This boycott follows the loss of two serving lawmakers in December 2025, creating vacancies in the Kano State House of Assembly.
