PDP and ADC Withdraw from Kano Assembly By-Elections Citing Lack of Credibility

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have announced their withdrawal from the Kano State House of Assembly by-elections scheduled for February 21. The parties cited the lack of credibility in the electoral process as the primary reason for their decision.

The Kano State Chairman of ADC, Musa Shu'aibu Ungoggo, stated that the party had no faith in the credibility of the electoral process, describing it as a mere exercise that did not reflect genuine democratic contest. Similarly, the Kano State Chairman of PDP expressed dissatisfaction with the inadequate notice provided by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the elections in Kibiya.

The parties believe that the short notice did not allow for proper preparation, leading to their withdrawal from the polls. The by-elections were scheduled to fill vacant seats in the Kano State House of Assembly following the deaths of two lawmakers in December 2025.
