ADC Raises Concerns Over INEC Ahead of 2027 Elections

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has raised concerns regarding the neutrality of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as the 2027 general elections approach. ADC chieftain and former Edo State Governor, Osariemen Osunbor, stated on Channels Television’s Politics Today that while INEC's recent actions have restored some confidence, questions about its credibility remain.

He mentioned that the party had petitioned the National Judicial Council (NJC) regarding Justice Mohammed Lifu's conduct following an Appeal Court ruling. Osunbor criticized INEC for previously denying the recognized ADC leadership access to its portal, a decision later nullified by the Supreme Court.

He acknowledged INEC's commendable defense of the party against deregistration attempts but noted ongoing concerns, including a failed attempt to revalidate voters' cards, which many suspected was aimed at invalidating them. He also referred to reports of voter card distribution at an APC gathering during the Ekiti governorship election, which further undermined INEC's credibility.

Osunbor described the Appeal Court's judgment as a reaffirmation of the rule of law.
