ADC Rejects INEC's Election Timetable Ahead of 2027

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has publicly rejected the Independent National Electoral Commission's (INEC) newly released election timetable, asserting that it is structured to exclude opposition parties in preparation for the 2027 general elections. In a statement signed by Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC criticized the timetable as a political instrument rather than a mere administrative plan, arguing that the new requirements under the Electoral Act 2026 impose heavy demands on political parties.

The timetable sets party primaries between April 23 and May 30, 2026, while parties must submit detailed digital membership registers to INEC by April 2, 2026. The ADC contends that failure to comply with these new rules would disqualify them from fielding candidates.

They claim that the rules are designed to create barriers for opposition participation and that the timetable gives an unfair advantage to the ruling party, led by President Bola Tinubu. The ADC plans to review its options and collaborate with civil society groups to demand a fair electoral process.
