ADC Requests Postponement of FCT Council Polls Over Ramadan Concerns

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally requested the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to postpone the FCT area council elections scheduled for February 21, 2026, due to the Ramadan period. In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Public Secretary of ADC, the party highlighted the need to protect the inclusivity of the electoral process to enable all eligible citizens, regardless of faith, to fully exercise their constitutional rights without constraints.

The letter, dated January 22, 2026, was signed by the party's National Chairman, Sen. David B.

Mark, and National Secretary, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola. ADC emphasized the cultural and religious significance of the Ramadan period and its potential impact on voter turnout, advocating for a reconsideration of the election date to ensure robust democratic participation.
