ADC Raises Alarm Over Detention of Malami, El-Rufai

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has voiced its concerns regarding the detention of two prominent party figures: former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. Malami is currently on trial for alleged money laundering involving ₦8.7 billion, with charges filed against him and his family members in December 2025.

He faced re-arrest on January 19, 2023, and has been in custody since. Meanwhile, El-Rufai is under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for alleged corrupt practices.

ADC's Kogi State Chairman Kingsley Ogga highlighted that these legal troubles could destabilize the party's structure and hinder coalition talks among opposition groups as they prepare for the 2027 general elections. Ogga accused the Tinubu administration of targeting opposition figures, which has led to fears among party members regarding their safety and participation in coalition efforts.
