ADC Condemns El-Rufai's Detention as Political Persecution

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemned the ongoing detention of former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, alleging that it is politically motivated persecution. During a press conference on Tuesday in Kaduna, ADC described the situation as a sustained campaign of harassment aimed at undermining El-Rufai, who has been detained since February 17 on charges related to corruption by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC).

Prof. Sani Bello, the ADC state leadership, expressed concern over the perceived political motivations behind the actions against El-Rufai, highlighting a troubling pattern of abuse of state institutions and disregard for due process.

The ADC criticized the lack of substantial evidence supporting the charges and noted that El-Rufai has faced inhumane conditions during his detention, including a denial of bail and arbitrary transfers between facilities. The party called for an immediate cessation of what they termed political harassment and intimidation against El-Rufai and other opposition figures.
