ADC Struggles to Secure Venue for April 2026 Convention
• Naijanews • Politics
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is facing challenges in securing a venue for its national convention, which is scheduled to take place in Abuja on Tuesday, April 14, 2026. Kola Ologbondiyan, a party chieftain, disclosed that the ADC has made several attempts to secure a venue, including requests to the Federal Capital Territory Ministry and the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, but these have been repeatedly turned down. Ologbondiyan alleged that private event centers in Abuja have also declined to host the convention due to fears of intimidation. This situation arises amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, involving factions loyal to former Senate President David Mark and Nafiu Bala, following the resignation of former chairman Ralph Nwosu. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has not recognized either faction pending the outcome of court proceedings related to the dispute. The situation has drawn attention from several opposition figures, including Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who have protested at INEC headquarters, describing attempts to weaken opposition parties.
