Adebayo Calls for Leadership Change to Combat Corruption

Adebayo, a leader of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has linked corruption directly to poverty in Nigeria, demanding a change in leadership by the 2027 elections. His remarks follow the release of Transparency International's 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI), which ranked Nigeria 142nd out of 182 countries, with a score of 26 out of 100.

This ranking reflects a decline from the previous year's position of 140th, indicating a decade-long stagnation in anti-corruption efforts. Adebayo lamented that Nigeria remains one of the most corrupt countries globally, with no improvement in its score over the past ten years.

He argued that eliminating corruption is essential to addressing the country's socio-economic challenges, including poverty and insecurity. Adebayo urged Nigerians to rally behind the SDP ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing the need for a government genuinely committed to tackling corruption.
