Adebayo Adelabu Resigns as Minister to Pursue Governorship

Adebayo Adelabu, the former Minister of Power, formally submitted his resignation letter on April 22, 2023, to exit President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's cabinet, effective April 30, 2023. Adelabu's resignation follows his appointment as Minister of Power in August 2023, which was confirmed by the Senate.

He has decided to pursue a governorship ambition in Oyo State. During a meeting with President Tinubu, Adelabu informed him of his decision, which received the President's approval.

In a press conference on March 24, 2023, Adelabu emphasized the need for stronger policies to address Nigeria's electricity challenges and proposed the creation of a coordinating ministry for energy reform across the electricity generation sector. Photographs surfaced showing Adelabu alongside Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume, as he submitted his resignation letter.
