Adelabu Proposes New Energy Minister Coordination Office

Adebayo Adelabu, the current Minister of Power, announced his intention to resign from his position effective April 30, 2026, to concentrate on his gubernatorial aspirations in Oyo State. In a letter addressed to President Bola Tinubu dated April 22, 2026, Adelabu emphasized the need for stronger coordination at the highest levels of government to sustain the gains made in Nigeria's power sector.

He proposed the establishment of a coordinating office for the energy minister to drive integrated reforms across the power and gas sectors. Adelabu highlighted his achievements during his tenure, including the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023, improvements in investment climate, and significant increases in peak power generation.

He acknowledged ongoing challenges such as gas supply constraints and infrastructure vandalism, and recommended measures to ensure continued progress, including cost-reflective tariffs and recapitalization of distribution companies.
