Nigeria's Power Output Increases to 4,300 Megawatts

Adebayo Adelabu, the Minister of Power, announced significant gains in Nigeria's electricity generation, with output increasing from 3,951 megawatts on March 28 to 4,300 megawatts by April 10, 2026. This rise is linked to an increase in gas supply to thermal power plants, which rose to approximately 704 million standard cubic feet per day during this period.

The minister's special adviser on strategic communication, Bolaji Tunji, noted that the overall trajectory indicates a gradual recovery in the power sector, driven by improved gas supply and coordination among critical stakeholders. Despite minor fluctuations, the peak operational availability rose to 4,694 megawatts in early April.

Adelabu emphasized the need for sustained interventions in the gas power value chain and the recent establishment of a gas power monitoring committee to ensure real-time monitoring and address delivery bottlenecks. He also urged the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency to enhance its internal revenue generation and reduce reliance on government appropriations.
