Nigeria's Electricity Generation Rises to 4,300MW

The Federal Government of Nigeria announced an increase in electricity generation from 3,951MW to 4,300MW between March 28 and April 10. Mr. Bolaji Tunji, a special adviser to the Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, attributed this improvement to a steady increase in gas supply to thermal power plants, which rose from approximately 605 million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) to 704 mmscfd during this period. The operational availability of power plants also improved, with peak generation reaching 7,796MW in early April. The government emphasized the need for sustained interventions in the gas power value chain to ensure reliable electricity supply. Additionally, a Gas Power Monitoring Committee was inaugurated to enhance coordination and address bottlenecks in gas delivery. Mr. Adelabu urged the Nigerian Electricity Management Services Agency (NEMSA) to focus on improving its internal revenue generation and establish meter test centers across the country to address the meter gap.
