Adelabu Resigns as Nigeria's Power Minister for Oyo Race

Adelabu has officially resigned from his position as Nigeria's Power Minister, as stated in a letter submitted to the Federal Government, addressed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This decision allows him to concentrate on his gubernatorial ambitions in Oyo State.

His resignation is in accordance with the provisions of the amended Electoral Act 2026, which prohibits political office holders from contesting elections. In his three-page resignation letter, Adelabu outlined key achievements during his tenure, including the implementation of the Electricity Act 2023, improvements in the investment climate, and an increase in peak power generation to 6,000 megawatts.

He also noted challenges such as gas supply constraints and infrastructure vandalism. To sustain progress in the power sector, he proposed measures including the establishment of a Coordinating Minister for Energy and the implementation of cost-reflective tariffs.

Adelabu expressed gratitude to the President for the opportunity to serve and emphasized the need for a smooth transition.
