Adelabu to Resign as Power Minister for Oyo Governorship

Adelabu, the current Minister of Power, is set to resign from his position to contest in the Oyo State governorship election scheduled for 2027. This decision follows a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the presidential villa on Tuesday, where he discussed his intent to enter the race.

Although he did not address journalists after the meeting, sources within government circles confirmed his plans. Adelabu's resignation is anticipated to occur by the end of the week, aligning with a previously established deadline for political appointees intending to run for office.

He has shown a long-standing interest in the Oyo governorship, having previously contested in the 2019 elections under the Progressives Congress and again in 2023. The APC has set the governorship primary for May 23, 2026, with a nomination fee of N50 million.

Other aspirants in the race include Senator Sarafadeen Alli and Oyedel Alao, indicating a competitive environment as the election approaches.
