Adeleke Rejects ADC Claims of Electoral Alliance in Osun Re-election

Governor Ademola Adeleke denied that the African Democratic Congress played any role in securing his recent Osun State governorship victory.

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has refuted assertions by the African Democratic Congress regarding their involvement in his recent election victory. In a statement released Tuesday through his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke clarified that no formal arrangement or understanding existed between his Accord Party and the ADC before, during, or following the election held the previous Saturday.

The governor's office emphasised that the African Democratic Congress did not form part of the coalition of political parties and supporters that backed his candidacy in the race. Instead, Adeleke attributed his success at the polls to divine intervention and backing from the Osun electorate.

The denial came after the ADC reportedly claimed involvement in his re-election campaign. This development adds to the post-election narrative in Osun State, where questions about political alignments and coalition arrangements have surfaced.

The timing of Adeleke's statement—coming days after the election—suggests efforts to clarify his administration's political relationships and distance his victory from any external party support beyond his own Accord Party machinery. Adeleke's position of managing post-election narratives in Nigerian politics, where claims of kingmaking or electoral support can carry implications for future governance and coalition-building.

The governor's public statement serves as a formal rejection of any debt or obligation to the ADC, establishing clear boundaries around the legitimacy of his electoral mandate.
