NBA Conference Returns to Port Harcourt in 2026

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has announced that its 66th Annual General Conference will take place in Port Harcourt from August 21 to August 28, 2026. NBA President Afam Osigwe, SAN, clarified during a media briefing that this return is not a compensation for the 2025 conference, which was relocated to Enugu due to a state of emergency and the appointment of an administrator deemed undemocratic.

The then Administrator of Rivers State, Hector Igbikiowubo, had demanded the return of N300 million allegedly given to the NBA by Governor Siminalayi Fubara before his suspension by President Bola Tinubu. Osigwe reiterated that the decision to hold the conference in Port Harcourt now is based on the restoration of democratic institutions, not as restitution.

He noted that over 23,000 lawyers are expected to attend, significantly benefiting the local economy.
