Adeleke Establishes Panel to Probe Ikire Killings

Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has set up a Coroner Inquest/Panel of Inquiry to investigate the killings, shootings, injuries, and violence that occurred in Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area on August 24, 2026. The Executive Order establishing the panel takes effect on August 31, 2026.

The panel, chaired by Magistrate Ayokunle Shiyanbola and with Mr. Abiodun Badiora as secretary, is tasked with determining the circumstances leading to the incident, identifying victims, and investigating any individual or group responsible for the deaths. It will also examine the actions of security operatives, including the use of live ammunition and compliance with legal standards.

The panel has the authority to recommend prosecution, disciplinary actions, compensation for victims, and institutional reforms. It can summon witnesses, demand police and medical records, and preserve evidence related to the incident, including firearms and communication logs, as directed by Governor Adeleke.
