UAE Introduces Free Private Teacher Work Permit System

The United Arab Emirates has launched a Private Teacher Work Permit, a formal system enabling qualified individuals to provide private tutoring legally. This initiative, a collaboration between the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation, aims to regulate the previously unregulated tutoring sector.

Eligible applicants include teachers registered with government or private schools, employees from both sectors, unemployed individuals, and university and secondary school students aged 15 to 18. The application process is accessible via the MoHRE smart application, official website, or e-services platform, and there is no application fee.

The permit is valid for two years, and recipients must sign a code of conduct approved by the Ministry before commencing tutoring. The UAE has issued a warning that individuals providing private lessons without authorization will face fines and penalties as per the Federal Decree-Law Regarding the Regulation of Employment Relationships and other applicable laws, indicating a clear intent to professionalize private tutoring.
