Adeniyi Adeyemi Remanded Over Alleged Fake Government Agency

A 38-year-old man accused of impersonating a director-general of a nonexistent council was ordered held in prison after his first court appearance.

On Wednesday, September 30, the Federal High Court in Abuja saw Adeniyi Adeyemi, 38 years old, brought before it for arraignment. He entered a not guilty plea to all eight counts alleging conspiracy, forgery, and impersonation.

Justice Mohammed Umar subsequently ordered that he be held in custody at Kuje Correctional Centre. This remand followed numerous unsuccessful attempts to secure his prior court attendance.

When the case reconvenes on October 12, 2026, the court will hear arguments concerning his release on bail. Adeyemi stands accused of creating what he presented as the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council—a purported state body that was in fact non-existent.

The prosecution is led by Rotimi Oyedepo, Director of Public Prosecutions, acting on behalf of the Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation. Two individuals also named in the charges—Femi and Anu—have evaded arrest and remain unapprehended.

The case originated following a petition from Femi Gbajabiamila. When police officers escorted Adeyemi into the courtroom around 2:30 p.m., he wore white attire consisting of a flowing garment and baseball cap.

Throughout the session, an official from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre remained at his side. The defendant kept his head bowed during all proceedings.

The case is docketed as FHC/ABJ/CR/562/2025 within the Federal High Court. Justice Umar's order requires that Adeyemi remain in detention pending resolution of his bail application, scheduled for October 12, 2026.
