Court Reassigns Adeyemi's Rights Suit Over Service Issues

A Federal High Court in Abuja has reassigned a fundamental rights suit filed by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), after Justice Obiora Egwuatu found the proof of service submitted by Adeyemi's lawyer, Ademola Oyedokun, to be incompetent. Adeyemi, who is in police custody, had sued the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Nigeria Police Force, and an Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

He sought six reliefs, including bail, medical treatment, and unhindered access to his lawyers. On September 3, Justice Egwuatu denied Adeyemi bail and medical treatment, stating the need to hear from the police.

The case was set for the respondents to show cause on September 9, but Adeyemi's lawyers failed to prove proper service. During the hearing on Thursday, the judge deemed the proof of service defective, leading to the reassignment of the case.
