Customs Chief Advocates Tech Adoption for Efficiency

Adewale Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs Service, addressed the need for customs administrations to adapt to emerging realities driven by technology and data to meet increasing demands for efficiency, transparency, and accountability. During a keynote address at an event in Abuja, he pledged to revitalize the long-standing institutional relationship between the Nigeria Customs Service and Yakubu Gowon University, formerly known as the University of Abuja.

Adeniyi emphasized the importance of aligning with global standards to fulfill core mandates, including revenue generation, trade facilitation, and border security. He noted that the modernization project is central to transforming the customs administration through technology-driven initiatives designed to overhaul processes, eliminate inefficiencies, and create a seamless and predictable trade environment.

The deployment of modern digital platforms and the automation of procedures were highlighted as foundational steps for the customs administration to enhance global competitiveness.
