Nigeria Customs Service Launches AI for Revenue Boost

On a recent date, Adewal Adeniyi, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, inaugurated a capacity-building program focused on adopting artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance revenue generation, transparency, and accountability within the service. The initiative aims to address revenue leakages and improve operational efficiency by integrating AI-driven systems, including risk management tools that will monitor activities and ensure compliance.

Adeniyi emphasized the importance of AI in detecting patterns, monitoring cargo movement, and identifying anomalies to prevent irregularities. The program is part of ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening revenue generation without imposing additional burdens on operators.

Kikelomo Adeola, the Deputy Comptroller General of Finance and Technical Services, highlighted the need for robust systems to support accurate revenue processes in an increasingly complex financial environment. The Customs Service plans to continue investing in training and capacity development to ensure personnel are equipped to operate in a data-driven environment.
