Afenifere Warns of Rising Terror Attacks in South-West Nigeria

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has raised alarms regarding the increasing wave of terror attacks and kidnappings near the South-West region of Nigeria. In a statement issued in Ibadan, Jare Ajayi, the group's spokesperson, noted that recent security breaches in neighboring states such as Kwara, Kogi, and Niger have heightened fears among the Yoruba populace.

The organization cited a particularly troubling incident in Kwara State, where heavily armed bandits invaded Woro Nuku community in the Kaiama local government area, reportedly killing nearly 200 people and abducting several others. Additionally, Afenifere pointed out that kidnappings are increasingly occurring in urban centers, including Ibadan, where a junior secondary school girl was recently abducted.

Despite a meeting of six South-West governors on November 24, 2025, aimed at strengthening regional security architecture, Ajayi argued that insecurity persists due to a failure to act on available intelligence and criticized the ineffectiveness of peace pacts with bandits in northern states.
