Afenifere Warns of Rising Terrorism in South-west Nigeria

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has raised alarms regarding the increasing terrorist activities in South-west Nigeria and neighboring states. In a statement issued by Comrade Jare Ajayi, the organization noted a troubling trajectory of persistent terrorist attacks, including recent kidnappings in Ondo, Ekiti, and Oyo states.

Afenifere recalled a significant incident in Kwara State where heavily armed bandits invaded Woro Nuku community, reportedly killing nearly 200 people and abducting several others. The group also highlighted a recent attack in Edo and Oyo states, where several citizens, including a junior secondary school girl, were abducted in broad daylight.

Afenifere called on governors of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Lagos, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta states to urgently implement robust security arrangements. They emphasized the need for a South West Security Fund and a monitoring center to track potential terrorist activities.

Afenifere criticized the lack of intelligence and the alleged collusion of certain individuals with bandits, which undermines public safety.
