Afenifere Urges Southwest Governors to Enhance Security

Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political organization, has expressed serious concerns over the rising terrorist activities in Yorubaland, urging the governors of the Southwest states to take immediate action. In a statement issued by Jare Ajayi, the organization highlighted the recent spate of kidnappings and attacks in states such as Kwara, Kogi, Niger, Ondo, Ekiti, and Oyo.

Afenifere recalled a significant incident where heavily armed bandits invaded Woro Nuku community in Kwara State, reportedly killing nearly 200 people and abducting several others. The organization noted that these attacks are no longer confined to rural areas, with incidents occurring in urban centers like Ibadan.

Afenifere called for the governors of Oyo, Ogun, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Kwara, Kogi, Edo, and Delta states to implement robust security arrangements to ensure the safety of residents. They emphasized the need for a Southwest security fund and the establishment of a monitoring center to track potential terrorist activities.

Ajayi criticized the current state police for their inefficacy and urged for immediate reforms.
