AFN Reschedules Commonwealth Games Trials to June 2024

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) announced the rescheduling of the trials for the 2026 Commonwealth Games, originally set for June 20-22, 2024, at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos. The decision, communicated by AFN media committee member Maxwel Kumoy, was made due to severe weather conditions, including heavy rain and flash floods, which disrupted travel plans for several Nigerian athletes based in the United States.

The new dates for the trials are June 21-23, 2024. AFN Chairman Tonobok Okowa emphasized that the decision was made in the best interest of the athletes, ensuring they have adequate time to arrive for the crucial trials that will determine Nigeria's representatives for the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 23 to August 2, 2026, in Glasgow, Scotland.

The trials will feature Nigeria's top track and field stars competing in various events.
