Over 1,000 Athletes Compete for Commonwealth Games Spots

The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has commenced trials at YabaTech Sports Complex, where over 1,000 athletes are vying for positions in the Commonwealth Games. The event is attended by key figures including AFN President Tonobok Okowa and National Sports Commission Director Bukola Olopade.

Athletes from both Nigeria and the United States, including Olympians and national champions, are participating. Okowa noted the quality of performances during the preliminary rounds, indicating a strong potential for Nigeria's team at the upcoming World Athletics U20 Championship and the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, in 2026.

The trials, which received 1,000 entries, are scheduled to conclude on Tuesday, June 23. Okowa urged athletes to strive for personal bests and new records during the trials.
