Nigeria's Top Athletes Gear Up for Commonwealth Trials

Nigeria's top track and field stars have arrived in Lagos for the Commonwealth Games Trials, scheduled from June 20 to June 22, 2026, at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex. The Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has confirmed participation in the trials, which will feature 32 events over three days, focusing on 14 marquee events.

Oluwatobiloba Amusan, the world record holder in the women's 100m hurdles, is expected to shine after successfully defending her African title and performing well in the Diamond League. Kanyinsola Ajayi, a standout from Auburn University, recently broke a long-standing Nigerian record in the men's 100m.

Other notable athletes include Samuel Ogazi, who recently clocked a personal best in the 400m, and Ezekiel Nathaniel, who will compete in the men's 400m hurdles. The trials are anticipated to showcase Nigeria's athletic talent and competitiveness on the global stage.
