Ajulo Urges UN to Correct Africa's Representation

Dr. Kayode Ajulo, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice in Ondo State, spoke at the United Nations, asserting that correcting the long-standing distortions in Africa's representation on world maps requires more than just cartography. In his piece titled “Africa Was Never Small: When the United Nations Finally Corrects the Map,” he highlighted how the Mercator projection misrepresents Africa's size, making it appear smaller than it is.

Ajulo emphasized that Africa's worth is not defined by its depiction but by its ancient civilizations, cultural diversity, and resources. He urged a shift from narratives focused on poverty and conflict to one that recognizes Africa's potential.

Ajulo called for tackling inequalities in education, access to capital, and governance, advocating for fair treatment of Africa by the international community and stronger self-governance by African nations. He stated that true progress should be measured by ordinary Africans' access to quality education and healthcare, rather than the wealth of a few.
