African Sports Ministers Back Nigeria's Bid for 2030 Commonwealth and 2031 African Games

African Sports Ministers have endorsed Nigeria's bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games and the 2031 African Games during a virtual meeting on August 29, 2025. The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, announced Nigeria's formal bid to host the centenary edition of the Commonwealth Games in Abuja.

Nigeria also expressed interest in hosting the 2031 African Games. The meeting highlighted Nigeria's commitment to successfully hosting the 2027 African Youth Games.

The Malawi Minister of Youth and Sports, Uchizi Mkandawire, commended Nigeria's presentation and assured support for the bids. This support signifies solidarity among African states for Nigeria's hosting aspirations.
