FG and Abia State Launch FHA Renewed Hope Estate Project

After 18 years of proposals, the Federal Government of Nigeria, in collaboration with the Abia State government, has initiated the construction of the FHA Renewed Hope Estate in Umuahia. This project, which is part of President Bola Tinubu's housing program, will develop a minimum of 1,200 housing units on a 100-hectare site in Umuahia North Local Government Area.

The ground-breaking ceremony took place on April 21, 2026, with Governor Alex Otti announcing that the state has provided land and compensated families affected by the land acquisition. The FHA intends to develop various housing types, including bungalows and duplexes, to cater to middle and low-income earners.

The project was conceived two years ago and aims to alleviate the acute housing deficit in Abia State, which has led to skyrocketing rents. FHA Managing Director Oyetund Oladimeji Ojo emphasized the commitment to the project, which is expected to create jobs and improve socio-economic conditions in the area.
