Wike Asserts Right to Support Any Candidate in Elections

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, has stated that he has the constitutional right to support any candidate in the upcoming local elections, regardless of party affiliation. This statement comes as he openly backs APC candidates ahead of the February 21 area council elections.

Felix Morka, the APC's national publicity secretary, supported Wike's stance, emphasizing that there is no legal provision preventing him from backing candidates across party lines. Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu has defended Executive Order 9, which aims to reinforce constitutional provisions regarding oil and gas revenue management.

This order, signed last Wednesday, has faced criticism for being perceived as an overreach of executive authority. Tinubu clarified that the order seeks to enhance transparency and accountability in the management of federal oil and gas revenues, countering claims that it misinterprets constitutional fiscal realities.
