East Africans Dominate Access Bank Lagos City Marathon

The Access Bank Lagos City Marathon saw East African runners excel, with Kenyan Ezra Kere winning the men's category in a time of 2:11:55, earning a prize of $50,000. He was closely followed by Ugandan Samuel Lomoi, who finished in 2:11:59, securing $40,000 for second place.

Another Ugandan, Namutala Lumbasi, completed the podium sweep with a strong finish of 2:12:25, taking home $30,000. In the women's race, Ethiopian Dink Meleka emerged victorious with a time of 2:37:36, demonstrating her prowess and securing the championship title.

Kenyan Cheyech Daniel finished second in 2:37:43, while Ethiopian Zewdalem Getaw placed third with a time of 2:38:59. Solomon Boyi was the first Nigerian to cross the finish line, receiving loud applause from the home crowd.

Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat represented Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and commended the event's seamless organization, which has gained global acclaim. The event was attended by Shehu Dikko, Chairman of the National Sports Commission, and Bukola Olopade, Director General of the NSC.
