INEC Excludes Ex-IGP Adamu from Nasarawa Governorship List

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) released the list of candidates for the 2027 Nasarawa State governorship election on August 29, 2023, notably excluding former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammed Abubakar Adamu. His campaign organization asserts that he has officially joined the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and is still in the race.

Abdullahi Yammani, the Campaign Director General for Adamu's Gubernatorial Campaign Organisation, stated that Adamu registered online with the SDP after resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC), where he previously contested the governorship primary but did not secure the party's ticket. The INEC list includes candidates from various parties, including Ahmed Aliyu Wadada (APC) and Musa Adamu Angbazo (SDP).

The absence of Adamu's name has raised controversy, especially with Angbazo appearing as the SDP candidate. Yammani expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved, claiming they have documentation to support Adamu's registration and candidacy.
