Obasa Elected President of YELO West Africa Region

Abdul Ganiyu Obasa, the chairman of Agege Local Government Area, has been elected as the president of the West African region within the Young Elect Local Officials Network (YELO) under the United Cities and Local Governments Africa (UCLG Africa). This election took place during the ongoing Yelo summit in Dakhla, Morocco, which is scheduled to conclude later today.

The YELO network aims to amplify the voices of young local elected leaders, specifically those aged 35 and below, across subnational municipal governments in Africa. Obasa's election reflects a broader shift towards youth-driven leadership within Africa's local governance systems.

The summit focuses on capacity building and exchanging best practices to prepare the next generation of political leaders capable of addressing urban governance challenges. Moshood Ajibola, the media head of the local government, noted the significance of this development in promoting youth inclusion in local governance.
