Nigeria Enhances Healthcare Early Warning Systems Workshop

A workshop held in Lagos focused on strengthening early warning systems within Nigeria's healthcare sector in response to climate change. This initiative follows the Federal Government's commitment to integrate climate change into health strategies, as outlined in Nigeria's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0, which aims for implementation in at least 18 states by 2030.

Juliet Whitley, the head of health at the British High Commission in Abuja, emphasized the UK's support for Nigeria's commitment to building resilient health systems. Dr.

Zakariya Mohd, Director of the Climate Change and Environment Health Division at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, highlighted the workshop as a collaborative effort to establish operational early warning systems for climate-related health risks. Isa Abulkasir, Chief Disaster Risk Reduction Officer at NEMA, noted the importance of leveraging climate information to mitigate health risks and enhance community resilience against climate-sensitive diseases.
