NIMET Workshop Tackles Climate Change Health Risks in Nigeria

The Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) hosted a three-day workshop in Lagos aimed at addressing climate change-induced health risks, including heat stress and vector-borne diseases. The event brought together national and international agencies to co-develop a multi-hazard early warning system for Nigeria.

Professor Charles Anosike, Director General of NIMET, emphasized the agency's commitment to enhancing weather and climate information services as a critical pillar for public health protection. Mr. Glory Onyegbul highlighted the importance of collaboration between meteorological and health sectors to ensure timely and accurate forecasts that can save lives and safeguard livelihoods.

The workshop is part of a broader initiative to integrate climate change considerations into health systems, with the Nigerian government planning to publish its third National Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) by 2025. The event marked a significant step towards building climate-resilient health systems, with participation from various ministries and international experts.
