IGP Disu Seeks International Support for Police Reform

On Wednesday, Inspector General of Police Olatunji Disu hosted a stakeholder dialogue with international development partners in Abuja, aimed at garnering support for the ongoing reform of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The dialogue involved representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Women, and various governments including those of Germany, Spain, and Slovakia, as well as the National Institute of Police Studies.

Disu reaffirmed the NPF's commitment to building a modern, professional police force that is intelligence-led and accountable, rooted in the rule of law and respect for human rights. The ongoing reform agenda focuses on transforming the police into a technology-driven institution capable of effectively responding to contemporary security challenges.

Professor Olu Ogunsakin, head of the police reform secretariat, outlined key pillars of the reform agenda, including legal and policy reform, electoral security management, and leadership development strategies. Disu reiterated the importance of international partnerships in sustaining police reform and developing institutional capacity.
