Akpabio Advocates for Agriculture's Role in Nigeria's Growth

On Wednesday, during the maiden National Legislative Summit on Agriculture at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Nigerian Senate, underscored the importance of agriculture for Nigeria's economic stability and development. He stated that the National Assembly is committed to strengthening food security and agricultural education.

Akpabio highlighted the need for strategic investments in agricultural research, technology, and human capital development to unlock the sector's potential. He called for stronger collaboration among stakeholders to transform Nigeria's agricultural capabilities, emphasizing the country's rich arable land and diverse ecological zones.

Akpabio assured stakeholders that the National Assembly would continue to provide legislative support and create policies to enhance agricultural education, research, and commercialization. Sharafadeen Alli, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, opened the summit, which aimed to reposition agricultural institutions as drivers of food security and youth empowerment.
