Akpabio Advocates Collaboration to Boost Agriculture

On Wednesday, Godswill Akpabio, the Senate President, addressed the maiden National Legislative Summit on Agriculture held at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture in Ibadan, Oyo State. He stressed the importance of synergy among the federal government, academia, research institutions, financial institutions, technology experts, agricultural businesses, investors, and farmers to transform Nigeria's agricultural sector.

Akpabio argued that the future of agriculture cannot rely solely on traditional methods but must incorporate research, technology, and innovation, including biotechnology and data systems. He highlighted the necessity of dismantling institutional silos and building bridges between research and policy implementation.

Akpabio also noted that a hungry nation cannot be peaceful and that addressing food insecurity is crucial for social stability. He reaffirmed the commitment of the National Assembly to support initiatives promoting food security and rural development, particularly for youth employment in agriculture.

The summit gathered various stakeholders to foster strategic partnerships and explore innovative solutions for the agricultural value chain.
