Green Harvest Launches Cassava Revolution in Benue State

On Monday, during the Farmer Awareness and Mobilisation programme organized by the Green Harvest Cooperative Society in Otukpo, Benue State, Prince Joshua Esho Apeh, the Executive Director of Green Harvest Food Stuff, referred to cassava as Benue's "crude oil." He stated that if cassava is properly processed, packaged, and exported, it could significantly enhance the fortunes of local farmers. Apeh announced plans for the company to utilize drones and install surveillance cameras on farms, creating a situation room to monitor activities and alert security agencies to threats.

He highlighted Benue's fertile land and abundant cassava production as key factors that could position the state as a major carbohydrate hub, contributing to food security in Nigeria and West Africa. Additionally, he noted that cassava could aid in renewable energy development through bioethanol production.

Apeh called for large-scale cassava production and urged the government to support and replicate the Green Harvest model across Nigeria's six geopolitical zones, emphasizing that value addition is crucial for developing a strong cassava industry.
