Dr. Agubata Advocates for Girls in STEM Fields

During a virtual event organized by the Association of Professional Women Engineers Nigeria (APWEN), Dr. Felicia Agubata called on girls and women in science and engineering to be fearless and to break perceived barriers in STEM fields.

She highlighted the critical need for advocacy to retain female participation in STEM, emphasizing that women should celebrate their achievements and push beyond societal limits. Agubata shared her personal journey as a determined girl from Anambra State, who excelled academically despite challenges.

She acknowledged the contributions of APWEN's six founding members, including Joan Maduka, Nigeria's first registered female engineer, and Margaret Oguntala, the first female president of the Nigerian Society of Engineers. Agubata praised APWEN's initiatives, such as scholarship schemes and mentorship programs, aimed at nurturing girls from primary school through to professional stages.

She stressed the importance of retaining female engineers in the field and the need for collaboration and visible role models to inspire the next generation.
