APC Dominates FCT Area Council Elections Ahead of 2027

In the elections held on February 21, 2023, the All Progressives Congress (APC) secured victories in five out of six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The APC's wins included the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Kwali, Kuje, Bwari, and Abaji, while the People's Democratic Party (PDP) won in Gwagwalada.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared the results, with notable victories including Moham Kasim from PDP winning Gwagwalada with 22,165 votes, and APC's Yahaya Shehu winning Kwali with 17,032 votes. APC's Abdullahi Abubakar won Abaji with 15,535 votes, and Samuel Shekwolo won Kuje.

The elections were described as peaceful despite high stakes, and APC Chairman Professor Nentaw Yilwatda hailed the results as a testament to the party's grassroots strength. The African Democratic Congress (ADC) did not concede defeat in the AMAC chairmanship race, citing electoral irregularities.
