AHF Advocates for Increased HIV/AIDS Funding in Kogi

At an advocacy meeting held on Wednesday in Lokoja, Kogi State, Steve Aborisad, a senior advocacy market manager at AHF Nigeria, called on lawmakers to increase the budgetary allocation for HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis treatment. He highlighted the significant reduction in international donor funding and stressed the importance of local resource mobilization to sustain the gains made in HIV/AIDS treatment in Nigeria.

Aborisad warned that without conscious efforts to allocate local resources, the country risks losing progress in its HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis treatment programs. He urged stakeholders at the government level to prioritize funding for these health issues to avoid dependence on foreign donors.

The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Aliyu Yusuf, commended AHF's efforts and pledged collaboration, while Usman Ochidi, Chairman of the House Committee on Health, promised to engage AHF during the budget process. Other notable attendees included Hamza Aliyu, Muraina Ozoveh, and Dr. Yashim Ankint.
