ITU Summit 2026 Focuses on Trust in AI Governance

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) held its 2026 yearly Global Summit, focusing on the future of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the importance of trust. This summit was part of the World Summit for Information Society (WSIS) week and featured the first Global Dialogue on AI Governance, where all UN Member States participated.

The event, which took place in Geneva, will reconvene in New York in May 2027. The AI for Good Global Summit showcased AI innovations and included the inaugural meeting of the AI for Good Global Commission, co-chaired by Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame and Salesforce Chair and CEO Marc Benioff, with ITU Secretary-General Doreen Bogdan-Martin as Vice-Chair.

The summit called for urgent action on trust, equitable access, and real-world AI solutions. A new Focus Group on Agentic AI was announced to develop frameworks for trusted digital identity.

The week brought together over 12,000 participants from 177 countries to promote safe and responsible AI.
