ITU Launches Initiative for Trust in AI Behavior and Identity

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has announced a new initiative focused on building trust in artificial intelligence (AI) behavior and identity. This initiative was introduced during the AI Good Global Summit held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ITU's focus group on trust in human-agent AI aims to develop a framework that ensures AI agents are trustworthy and accountable throughout their lifecycle. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, the ITU Secretary-General, emphasized the necessity of trust as AI evolves into more autonomous agents.
The group will address challenges related to human control over tasks executed by AI, particularly in critical infrastructure and financial transactions. Co-chairs Debora Comparin and Amir Banifatemi highlighted the need for a common international foundation to establish trust in AI systems.
The focus group will report to the ITU's expert group on security standards, known as ITU-T Study Group 17, and will hold its first meeting in Paris in November 2026, with a second meeting planned for Geneva.
