Akwa Ibom Airport's International Status Boosts Tourism

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno stated that the international status of Victor Attah International Airport will significantly improve regional connectivity and tourism. The airport recently commenced its maiden international flight to Ghana, marking a major milestone for the state's aviation infrastructure.

Governor Eno highlighted that the airport's international certification will facilitate travel within the West African sub-region without the need for overflights through Nigeria. He expressed optimism about the economic benefits for the Gulf of Guinea region and announced plans to establish a cargo terminal to enhance economic activities.

Eno also revealed the creation of a Ministry of Aviation and Airport Development, appointing Engr. Uwem Ekanem as the Managing Director of the Ibom Airport Development Company.

The governor acknowledged the contributions of former governors Victor Attah, Godswill Akpabio, and Udom Emmanuel in developing aviation infrastructure. Additionally, Ibom Air plans to expand its fleet and train 20 pilots, with ongoing projects to enhance airport facilities.
