Ibom Air Launches Historic Uyo-Accra Flight Service

Ibom Air launched its inaugural international flight from Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo, Akwa Ibom, to Accra International Airport in Ghana, marking a significant milestone as the first state-owned airline to operate scheduled international services. The flight, which took off at 3:19 PM, was operated using a Bombardier CRJ 900 aircraft, carrying 86 passengers and four crew members.

Among the passengers were notable figures, including Umo Eno, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State. The flight took 84 minutes, and the excitement was palpable as passengers awaited immigration processing upon arrival in Accra.

The establishment of Ibom Air was conceived during Victor Attah's administration, with the airport's development beginning in 2007 under Godswill Akpabio and completed in 2023. The new terminal, which took 27 years to complete, enhances seamless passenger transit between domestic and international flights.

The airline plans to operate scheduled flights between Lagos and Accra starting October 2023.
